Seen two VF34s on MY99/00 UK or STis now and both had the compressor outlet nipple orientated horizontally instead of vertically. The rubber hose used therefore interferes with the breather hose (that links the two rocker covers), and in one case this has led to splitting of the boost control hose with resulting overboost. (1.3 bar mapped, 1.65 bar with light detonation was the result). The split was underneath and so could not be readily seen. I've asked sg72 if he has any pictures he can put up. I've always found these nipples to be non-rotating on other turbos, which is probably a good thing given the pressures they see.
Any one with a VF34 might or similar on a car which did not come with it might want to have a look to check, and anyone that has sorted it please say how.

As you say John.
The boost control hose does interfere and cause chaffing.
This has resulted in loss of control with, overboost/fuel cut as a result.
I however managed to move the pipe connection to a more rubber hose friendly position.
I was originally intending to bend the connection but found it moved quite readily.(With the help of a Ring spanner)
