Oil Overfill, Help Please
#1
Hi All,
I recently got a 93 wrx, i noticed today that when I reved there was quite a bit of smoke, on checking the oil level i noticed this was very high, as in past full when cold and way way past the notch when hot.
When checking the filter etc, it apears new.
Do i need to do an oil change or just attempt to drop a little oil out of the sump ?
Also does this seem normal behavior for overfilled oil ?

Im no expert, but I know it wont be doing it any good, some say its as bad as underfilling ,should only be on the top line when at full temp.
I once overfilled a car, and rather than trying to drain some out, i rigged up a syringe and a bit of tubing, sucked some oil out of the filler funnel.
Hope this helps, Rob.

Just crack open the bolt in the sump to drain off some oil into a bucket / bottle, until level is correct. Don't remove bolt all way out or oil jets out!!
Bottom hole on dipstick is cold fill minimum level, second hole is cold fill max, notch is hot filled level max.

Yep been here done that...
As he says just loosen the sump plug a little until oil runs out (don't remove the plug). Bit by bit until its at the correct level.

I syringed about 1/4 ltr of oil out through the dipstik on thursday
However after doing so got no reading on stick .Even after running for a couple of mins.
Surely not that much difference between nothing and over fill?.
