Been thinking of fitting a dump valve to my MY02 wrx, but what is the point, what will i gain and what is the best type/ value for money? Will it affect my warranty?

Your car already has one. Some people swap it for an aftermarket one, and some even go for a "Vent to atmosphere" type, (the one on the car is a recirculating type).
The jury is still out on any benifits from either type, but a lot of people stay with the recirc type on the grounds that that was what the car was designed to work with. If a VTA valve was that good, Subaru would use it.
