6 speed gear oil change?

Noticed the 3rd to 2nd shift is stiff when gear oil is cold on my 02 STi. 5th to 6th is also a bit notchy when cold. Should the dealer replace the oil with synthetic at their expense? Is there a Subaru notice detailing this and does anyone have a copy?
