Stainless Steel Exhaust Header - To wrap, or not to wrap ...
#1
That is the question I've ordered some near equal length headers for my P1, and was wondering if it’s worth going to the hassle of having them wraped in heat resistant materail.

Been wondering this myself... if you wrap then the gases will be hotter at the turbo but get there quicker.. so the inlet side of the turbo will get more heat but more power as the gases got to the exhaust side quicker..
If you don;t wrap there is less heat transfer from exhaust to inlet on the turbo but the gases get there slower taking a bit of power / spool up time but less heat transfered but some heat released into the engine bay...
I think the later has more negatives.. I vote for Wrap..
My only concern is that the scoob engine leaks frequently from the cam cover gaskets.. drips onto the headers.. which when you have heat shields on is no problem.. but wrap absorbing oil is a bit of a fire hazard... I might try and refit heat shield in that area on mine.. as well as wrap..

It's also worth wrapping them to keep the extra heat away from the sump, oil filter and bit's of the wiring loom that are all dangerously close to the pipe work...
oh and to give people a fright when they get wet and clouds of steam billow out from underneath your car in traffic

The heat is all part of the total energy in the exhaust gases. So if you lose that before it gets to the turbo it is wasted. Also the heat under the bonnet will be high and this will also decrease the power available. Worth wrapping it and also making sure as suggested that your cam cover is not leaking oil onto the exhaust.
