There's always something...
I fitted some gauges to my MY96 (long story, but not telling it now...) last weekend. I used a rather large strut brace shaped lever to put the intercooler piping back on and managed to move the throttle position sensor.
I put that right using the workshop manual spec of 4.7v at idle. Everything looks good, no CEL and the car pulls very smoothly through the gears now - better than it used to, unless I've been very smooth today
The boost solenoid now annoyingly clicks away at idle. It's the most annoying sound!! Is it supposed to do this? I don't remember it doing it before - but then it's possible the TPS has been a bit wrong for some time.
Please help a car hypocondriac!!

I think the TPS would do it. Depending on the year/model/country the map can sometimes have 0 duty cycle at the lowest throttle setting or not.
The other option is that your idle switch isn't being triggered, but I think you would notice that with lumpy unstable idle.
I would try just reducing the about of throttle on idle ever such a tiny bit to see if you can make the change.

Dave,
yours being a 96 should have a idle switch (as Paul says). so I'd check that (it's in the ECU somewhere as a flag bit) but on mine (which as no switch) I had to change the whole throttle body. but suspect you just need to alter the TPS as Paul says

Thanks, I'll have another look this lunch time - hopefully this time with a calibrated meter. I'm not sure how accurate mine is...
And I'll have a look for the idle switch - I'm not 100% happy with the idle as it did seem a little lumpy in the work car park today - not much, but it seems different. (another dose of car hypocondria...)

also, check carefully, sounds like the idle switch isn't coming in and the noise you can hear is actually the pressure exchange solenoid and not the boost solenoid. Check by putting your finger on each to feel vibrations from the switching.
