Hello,
I am a happy owner of MY01 WRX with full catless SS exh, itg + Tek 3, running around 270 PS (I hope). The only problem so far is my poor little td04 which seems to suffer a lot at higher revs and struggle to deliver more than 1,2 bar above 5000rpm. My map is 1,25 but I don't reach this level even in 4th and 5 th gear. After couple of minutes of driving at top speeds (no speed limits around:-) ) that is 250-260km/h sth cuts off (fuelling?, too small turbo?). No Knock Link installed, unfortunately. Recently I decided to replace my turbo for sth bigger and more efficient. Which turbo would you recommend to reach 300PS/ 380-390Nm?
What boost can be set on it not to kill the engine within a week?
I would prefer direct turbo replacement.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Mark

I'm doing roughly the same and have opted for a VF35, Roller bearing version of VF30 found on the P1 this will take 300bhp in it's stride. spool up around 2900 rpm I belive. alternatively there is VF34 which is a slightly modified VF30 and slightly bigger, should be better for higher revs. otherwise there are the likes of the TD05 but this may be bigger than you want. I never looked into the TD--'s much.

What is the boost spec of VF34?
As far as I know it spools up quicker than VF30 and have less lag due to roller brg design. This turbo is on the 2002 Sti RA type SPec "C". Has anyone fitted it into 01WRX?

The turbo you are talking about is the VF35.... I'm pretty sure. The VF34 is not roller bearing and is on the STI8 typeR. As for the 35, it should give you about 18psi. A guy i know with a P1 says his pulls like a train at 7500rpm(VF30) so you should have nothing to worry about if you don't want higher than that. The 34 will be able to give more boost at that sort of revs but will loose a bit on spool up due to no roller bearing, and will pick up later in the rev range.

If it's 300bhp your after, i would stick with the 35.

BTW. I'm no expert this is from the last couple of weeks looking into these things.
