Question

Hi,
My wastegate is rattling, i can feel play in the bearings on it. Is there any way to fix this without having the turbo reconditioned? BTW, its a 93wrx
Thanks, Rob.

Sorry Rob, you need to be a bit more clear..
The wastegate does not have any bearings?? the turbo does of course...
If it is the same prob as my 93WRX had, you need to tighten the actuator arm, this is done by levering the actuator mount slightly..
Not too much though as it will overboost..
Basically teh paddle part of the the wastegate will rattle if it is loose and not clamped shut properly.
I diagnosed my car as a turbo with dodgy bearings until i took my DP off and the paddle was loose.. (no more rattling now)

Hi Rob,
Done it now and it has cured the problem, also, not had any overboost yet, so cant thank you enough
Cheers, Rob.

Also, forgot to say, not sure if im imagining it but the engine seems more responsive now, suppose if the wastegate was running slightly open all the time then it would rob me of some boost, is that correct?
Cheers, Rob.

Yep that is correct mate, the spool up of your turbo is greatly reduced if the wastegate is open at all, its a bit like if your up pipe is leaking spool up is affected.
Glad you got it sorted mate, you'll only really get over boost if you tighten the actuator too much.
