what would a knocking noise in the middle of the engine be?

when i rev my engine(MY97 UK turbo saloon) a knocking noise appears in the middle of the engine. what is this

the crank is in the middle so maybe crank bearings

Does it only do it when cold? Are you sure it's coming from the middle? Reason I ask is it could be piston slap. It's common on 97/98 cars.

Maybe a cat crawled up ya exhaust pipe when stationary and is trying to get out ......hahaha....sorry couldnt resist it i hope ya car is ok mate

also injectors can make quite a racket and sound like it is comming from the middle
