Hey,

I was thinking about replacing my '02 WRX gearbox with a STI, sti RA or similar transmission, to get the 4.44 final drive ratio, and a strength upgrade. Does anybody know if the normal STI ver.5 or ver.6 gears are the same strength as the short ratio gears found in the STI RA, type R, etc? How good are the center diffs found in the sti boxes, by the way?

Thanks,

Kevin

Gears are not much if at all stronger on any Subaru model, the other models use twin baulk rings on most gears which make the gear selection smoother. The close ratio boxes are less likely to break gears because less ratio difference between gears.

I've heard that the RA gears are stronger, but I don't know if that's the truth, or just internet "common knowlege".

Thanks,

Kevin

Not stronger but less likely to break due to less torque exterted on them due to the closer gear ratios
