Question

I've got a forge dump valve to fit (VTA) and it has some oil/grease around the holes on the side. Should this be there or should I clean it off prior to fitting it?

Thumbs down

Doesn't matter if you are putting it in the bin

There is a lubricant used inside them, but if it is black like oil then clean it off. You also need to block off the DV return into the intake, but VTA is bad news for you car. I wouldn't risk my bearings on one with a MAF based ECU.

Question

Don't want to hijack the thread - my question is related.

I've seen your thoughts on VTA dump valves previously John, just wanted to pick your brain on the dual type after market dump valves i.e. recirculate at lower pressures and VTA on higher pressures.

Only ask having just bought an APS dual vent dump valve which does just this.

The only APS one I saw was leaking on idle and it was all over the place.

Dump valves are not there to make noises, they are there to protect your turbo.
