I am wondering, are the gearsets from a STI/22b stronger than a normal GTT turbo? Or only the ratio are different

My four-door STi has primarily the same gears in it as the UK car - the parts were interchangeable. Final drive is different - no comment in whether it is stronger.

The STi 7/8 gearbox is reputedly very strong.

Will the sti7/8 gearset fit the UK car? I only need the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear.

Yes most of the gear sets are interchangable, you might find the car to be quite strange to drive when changing from 3rd to 4th, if the diff ratios are not the same in both.

No the gear sets are not really stronger, the synchro setups are different which aids the gear changes

Mike,

Whilst the "gearbox" from the STi7/8 can be fitted to the earlier cars, the "Gears" are totally different, and I doubt they are interchangable, as a mix & match with earlier gears.

There's a fair bit of work involved in fitting the STi7/8 box to the earlier cars, but email either David Wallis, or Stevieturbo, they have both done, or in the process of doing it. I believe it also involves changing the drive, and prop' shafts.

Mark.

Sh*t, maybe it is better to buy a gearset from laterale performance. I thought I found a cheap way to make the transmission stronger.
There aren't any cheap way, right?!

Yep pretty well right.

I have just converted my rs gearbox with a late model twin turbo box, a couple of the gears are much wider
