Question

I was looking to improve the std exhaust on my PPP'ed 300. After trying to crawl under the car to check out what's what I have become slighty confused to the number of sections. Looing for some help.
From the back the shiny single oval back box connects to a rear section. This has a resonator as part of the box. This I think then connects to a front pipe via spring damper assembly. This front section has white wire out the top (I guess c02). This section must then connect to downpipe and then turbo and uppipe.
This makes 5 sections???
PPP also replaces 1 cat section,I take it this is the second section.
Would I benefit from replacing the front section after downpipe and would the cause any other running issues?

Hi Nigel

The 01 PPP replaces the rear silencer and the 3rd cat (the one just after the downpipe).

Great gains can be had from replacing the up pipe and downpipe and power rises from 240bhp to around 275+bhp with this set up. Many people have done this mod.

Thumbs up

Pete Thanks for the reply. I have considered a full decat using down pipe / up pipe and CEL fix light to release the potential of 270 – 280 bhp, however there does seam to be a few reports on here of sensors failing after going down this route. Then theirs the decision of which type of down pipe open neck vs. twin dump, fixed up pipe or flexi version? Also In the early days of my01 decat’s their were also some reports of up pipe gaskets leaking due to engine movement. Although this problem does seam to have gone away, the fact that it has been reported is always been a concern for me.
As PPP replaced the third CAT would changing the rear section (the resonated one after PPP section and before the back box) give a worthwhile improvement?

LOL I know what you mean. A couple of things have been cleared up by the test of time though...

An up pipe with post-welding ground flanges will not leak
A good non flexi joint up pipe will not crack or damage the turbo
EGT sensors do fail, but then they do on std cars too. The fix is a 2.2k ohm resistor in its place.
Twin dump v Open neck... this one will run forever so I won't even start
