How about a smaller battery and making room for a dual tank in the original position?

Must fight my cheapskate tendencies Think I'm doing OK with some recent self-inflicted bills with the intent of making it a daily driver again

I did hear somewhere that screenwash was ok in water injection though. Your knocklink would tell you if you emptied it , or if you had the fancy display, but I heard something about fiddly repriming the lines if you run it dry.

Shouldn't need to re-prime it if you run a helper pump.

Right,now i have my water injection kit, i have a big dilema before i(we) fit it. The dilema being the tank (size & location).

Location worry is down to having a wagon, and having heard David Wallis report how all he could hear was the water sloshing about in the tank sat in the boot. This i do not want, as i do far too many miles, and i know it will annoy me.

A further suggestion was to have the tank fitted with race foam? which should quieten the sloshing i believe.

However, still not happy, as i would loose boot space, and have to cut my load liner.

Soft sod, you may say, but i have a young family (fill boot with all the crap you need to take with them), and i dont like driving far in the wifes jeep. Its not as comfortable or as "efficient".

So i have finally decided that the location will be in the engine bay, but where???

After much more pondering, due to FMIC pipework, induction kit, etc, i dont have a lot of space. My only saving grace is that i dont have aircon.

So the location i have concluded on is attached to the strut behind the fuel filter.

I have spent some time measuring etc, and i am pretty certain i can get the following sized tank in there. 25cmH x 20cmW x 15cmD.

Hopefully, with the help of David (construction), it will be a DIY tank, however if he is too busy, i will commission one to my exact measurements.

Are my calculations right that this will provide approx 7.5litres of water storage?

Do you think it is senible? or am i mad?

I was planning to use the washer bottle and not use the windscreen spray whilst on full boost, which I don't make a habit of at 26 PSI I have to say

Sod the temperature of the water and what's wrong with methanol on your windscreen

It's only so that I don't have to pour whole bottles of NF in every tank to get my 5 deg extra timing, although no one seems to say they've had that much out of water except a guy on NASIOC.

John, unlike yours now, mine is a daily driver, 26 to 30k a year. In winter i definately need screen wash in their to clear the windscreen. I dont clean the car for weeks, as within a day its the same again.

So really want to avoid using the washer bottle, although i did consider it out of lazyness

David will tell you, i am pretty picky, and want things to be right, whilst still being able to have all the normal functions that came with the car. eg where i chose to put my knocklink took me 6 months to decide

Reading the WI destructions, do NOT run pump with no water for long!! Never mind re priming.

I can empty the washer bottle in winter in about 2/3 days, WI will just take more.

Are my calculations correct re the volume? (Useless, never did listen at schoold)

Yes.

Mine is placed close to the tank (in the boot).

To be honest, the WI pump could pull the water through, but i didn't like the fact the water lines went down to the floor, along the sill, and then back up the bulkhead to the engine bay.

I have just removed my catch can as it doesn't catch anything and just VTA'd it. Saved me some space and ooh about 200g

Do you get anything from your heads? All the lines I inspected from them were far less oily, but during the engine swap I planned to VTA them too.

screenwash in WI?

we put some anti freeze in davids for anti-corrosion, but I wouldn't want wash (ie with detergent) in there.

How about a tank on the passanger side wing? With a remote filler of some sort, possibly a transparent pipe in the engine bay too that allows the level to be read.

I still need somewhere for a surge tanks too, other than the boost (uurgh).

Fuel tank foam does work at stoping the sloshing sound though.

I have a fair bit of room in a comparment in the boot, enough for somthing anyway.

How about replumbing the rear wash-wipe to use the front pump, and use the rear wash/wipe resevoir for te WI? Or even the other way around somehow?

I use the intercooler water spray reservoir for my WI as it has the built in dash warning when it runs low.

I take it you dont have this but it may be worth trying to source the IWS kit from a breakers and then use all the bits for your WI.

Steven yes your calculations are correct!!!
Haven't got WI on my impreza (yet) but have fitted it to several skylines. I think a tank that size will be quite adequate, and definately fill it with tank foam. What WI systems are you planning on using? All the ones i have fitted have been Aquamist and i haven't experienced any problems with them. However I think the basic pressure activated system is good enough and don't think the fully mappable one is worth the extra £'s. By the time it is mapped it is basically just on or off.

Thanks guys, the system is the Aquamist 2d, which i was very happy to purchase.

Paul, the impreza wagon uses the same water tank for the rear wash wipe as the fronts. Nice thought on the wing, but that would mean cutting a hole in the inner wing, which i dont wnat to do. David will tell you how miffed i was at having to cut my bumper for the FMIC. Still am

John, M5........ my thouhts too. However, my wife saw a nice Blue skyline on sunday, and said "Ooh you can have one of those dear". After i picked myself off the floor, she meant it. It is something i have been thinking about.

Anyway, pretty certain on the location now, thanks for confirming the volume. Will try and show a picture of where it will be located, and if David does make it for me, then the build and install.

Where can you get methanol from, in reasonable quantites, as i am considering running water/meth mix (mainly to stop freezing in winter).?

What, if any, are the benefits of methanol mixed with the water?

Also get a boss for a low level switch put in it. Then pull your clocks out, shine a torch down the empty bulb holes in the back of it, one of em will have a "low" sign, wire up a small LED to your switch, tape it in to the hole reassemble and hey presto a "proper" warning light for you.
