On MY97 STI TYPE R I have a Stainless steel exhuast from the resonator to the back box. It looks a bit like two bike cans bolted together, very good. The problem is the sound, It does not sound very loud or good. I would like to know how much this has to do with the Caton the d-pipe and the resonator as they are both standard. Idealy i want it to rumble like most scoobs do, but with out changing the back box.

The downpipe does make a big difference to both sound and power..

Not sure about Resonator as mine had middle cat which again seemed to make it quieter..

Problem is if the backbox is quiet it might be restrictive so might need changing to extract the power and sound..

Decat the downpipe and see what it sounds like.. and then you could change the resonator for a straight pipe and then as a last resort change the bb.

Most people to get that sound only replace the rear muffler.

I think I will change the cat on the downpipe, I think it then needs re-maping? Does anyone know if a custom exhaust place can actually change the sound of a back box, by tinkering with it instead of just changing it for another model.

Probably wise to get a Type R remapped for uk fuel anyway..

So decat and get a noise you are happy with and then get it remapped... but then this might delay things due to cost..

Not worth getting the exhaust changed due to the cost IMHO.. just replace it or stick with it.. although talk to Hayward and Scott..
