ce-cated centre (lamda)

Just fitted a new de-cated centre section to my97 turbo,car runs fine and is faster but check engine light comes on.I did not fit the lamda sensor due to the thread on the new pipe being to small for it to fit.Does this need to be fitted and is this what is causing me my problems?
