Question

Ok..I know we've all had the amazing rattling heatsheild problem, but this one is new on me (and search isn't working).

Possible qualifying factors:
1) Engine has been steam cleaned
2) Clutch bite point is rather high (esp as clutch is quite new!)

When car idles it squeaks...just slightly...like the fan belt is slipping a tiny bit, but metal on metal sound. Rev it gently and the sound will get worse. Hold those revs, and the sound goes away. Driving the car along at high revs....no noise.....cruising along off boost it only makes the noise going over speed-humps and bumps in the road.

Steering to the right makes it worse, to the left better.
Changing gear / using the clutch has no effect.
It sounds like it is coming from the clutch / driveplate area, but is proving difficult to track down.

Any ideas PLEASE guys?

Ok...update now I've had some time to listen better:

IT only does it after a full boost run (so heat expansion / load related)

Ignore my comments on steering. Nothing to do with it.
It only does it when NOT accelerating. As soon as any torque is involved, the whole thing goes away until you lift off again, and then only appears when the revs drop some.

Clutch makes no difference.
Does it stationary or rolling.

Sounds 'rubby'. Something in the pre-clutch assembly? What? PLEASE PLEASE someone throw me a bone? just some suggestions would be nice.

Check your power steering fluid level. If its sitting on low, top it up. This case sounds too familiar for my liking.

Will check it, mate, but as this sound is definitely coming from UNDER the car, it seems unlikely to be my PS System.

Read above again, I was being paranoid about the steering.
