Question

Hiya!

I need some help here lads please.

I'm running an HKS fmic kit on my GC8 turbo (with the ABS unit in the same corner as the filter).

As I'm running a link, I have ditched the MAF housing, and botched up a simple solution with a K&N conefilter, and a bit of 3" bent pipe. It's *really* tight, but it works.

Until now...as my car is due to a pollution checkup, I'm planning to use the stock ecu as backup *IF* I can't get the link through, and then I'll need the MAF in working order.

There's another reason as well to have a look at it, as I mentioned it's awfully tight, the filter unit is rubbing against the HKS IC pipework, and almost the ABS units brake pipes as well (eek).
And it's not overly esthetic either.

So, the question is - would say HKS own induction kits fit/work in my car?

Many thanks!

/J

Hi J,

HKS RSK should do it. You'd think they'd have the foresight to make sure it fitted with their own FMIC.

Looking at the pics it should fit no worries. Here's a pic I managed to scrounge from my archives.

This is an STi5, so it should be the same

Cheers

SAM

You can put a Pipercross PX700 directly on the end of the turbo inlet pipe, sits underneath ABS pipes, and would avoid your FMIC pipes entirely - saw this first on a post from Trout, and now have it on my own car

http://www.apsd44.dsl.pipex.com/PX700.htm

Would be interested to know result of MoT with Link, I am hoping I can pass fast idle with just UK centre CAT

Thanks Rich, that looks just like what I need.

Christian, you'd have to let it go WAY cheaper than that for me to be interested. I can get a new one through Takakaira around £180...incl. shipping to me.

Thanks lads!

Question

Wonder if you ran the JECS without the MAF as long as you had the lambda sensor if it would pass? Mine idles quite well with the MAF unplugged.

Well, idle isn't a problem on the link (nor on the jecs sans MAF iirc, and as you say)....but we measure at "increased idle" - 2500 rpm as well...which puts me inbetween as many different zones as possible, and MAP is really sensitive as well.

A bit of a PITA (tm) to map for really - but I shall give it a shot.

Cheers!

Well SAM I managed to clear MOT finally

Even though I find a little leak @ the turbo lambda was 1.1
So it just past
I used the stock exhaust from the DP

They do not like the 22B wing though...

Good Luck

Well my measily turbo managed a 110 mph trap speed when it was tried with a dodgy VF23...so I bet it's really strangling the poor thing.

Don't worry about it Christian. If you're worried - I'd have someone check preassure drop pre/post IC (which I doubt is that great).

Hello Steve!

It's an MY00.

This is what it looks like today, with the DIY filter solution.
I'd like to know if say, the HKS racing kit would fit in there *with* the MAF housing...before I fork out, or if there's another solution.

Cheers!

/J
