Exhaust Insulation?

I managed to bottom out my scoob sport the other day and took the sump guard off and what looked like exhaust insulation from a sheer guess by a novice. Would this be correct, if so how badly needed is it and where can I get the stuff from.
Also, where is the best place to get a new sump guard from. At least I know they do the job!!! Oops
