My mechanic uses 5w/40 on all the Scoobs he services. Valvoline gold, or summut like that.

Everyone has their own opinion of what to use.
It all depends TBH.
Personally i use Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50(not normal Mobil 1 0w/40 )or Castrol RS 10w/60.
They are both reasonably priced and widely available. Halfords/motor factors etc etc.
The general opinion seems to be that fully synthetic is not good for our scoobs so you really want to stay away from them and stick to a good semi synthetic.. ie. above.

My understanding is that Mobil 1 Motorsport and Castrol RS are both fully synthetic and are best. Semi-synthetics (eg Castrol Magnatec/Shell Helix/Esso Ultra) are OK but not the best for Scoobs.

I do stand corrected, i meant that oil that is too thin should not be used ie. 0w/40 etc

No probs Rob, thanks for the info, I've just found an interesting website ( http://www.m161fhr.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ ) about what oil to use in your Impreza
