Ca ECU's get damaged??

Guy's,
I have just bought an ECU from a breakers, it came off a my99 uk car, the car was obviously damaged enough to write it off, there is no sign of any damage on the ecu case, do you think this means it'll be undamaged inside the box?

Don't really want to fit it to my car, I don't want to upset anything, I only really bought it to try and make a quid or 2!

should be ok, could have electrical damage... one way to find out is to plug it in.
