Quite a while ago I put a full Mongoose system on the car inc. d/p (oh, and I love it )

The heatshield was not put back by the garage at the time. Will this is anyway cause any problems? Am I more likely to suffer heat problems with the turbo/ engine?

If so, is it a drama putting it back on? i.e. will it involve expense cutting/ shaping the old heat shield??

Thanks

You may have to trim it a little dpeneds on the down pipe. There are worries over high temps under the bonnet with it exposed poss. affecting the brake fluid temp.

I'm going to exhaust wrap mine when i put my new system on

Maybe won't be as hot, but it will still produce some heat. The net effect is that when you stop, this heat will rise and you will end up with higher temperatures around the intercooler, and have more problems with heatsoak. When you're moving along, it shouldn't make a lot of odds. All IMHO.

You can chop down the heatshield fairly easily and re-fit it. Do a search as I did post some pictures of mine after trimming a while back,

I'd trim the heat shield to fit the new d/p. It fact, that's what I'm doing tomorrow!

Its very important to refit it, as long as the mounting bracket was re-installed to the upper mounting bolts of the turbo/downpipe then it really is a matter of offer it up and trim where it touches until it doesn't, if the bracket is missing then you will need to get hold of one and refit. Without the heat shield that corner of the intercooler gets toasted. Higher charge temps mean increased chance of det and low performance. The heatc shiled is sort of L shaped, you lose the extended section the reaches down the side of the turbo (left) and can fit using the two bolts on the right and one at the left rear.

Kev,

When i had mine done it was just a matter of cutting away the offending parts of the shield until it fit. If i remember, you will loose one or two of the fixing bolts, but as there are 8 its no prob. Have a look here, www.steve.ukmail.org its got info on downpipe shield stuff.

I did but he has gone out of production until later this year I just had an interesting discussion re: the amount of air you could shove in your mouth whilst riding a bike.

The gist of it was that the same amount of air goes in and gets forced through regardless of what's in your mouth.

Therefore, not sure of it's effectiveness. Having said this, I still want one! Prague 2003? Happening for sure. Maybe I should see if I can get a group to travel with? TBC I am sure...
