how can i tell a closed deck block?

how can i tell a closed deck block from an open? ie:engine numbers,appearence etc, i have the heads of it

Handy Hint... Make sure you remove the head gaskets from the block before pronouncing that it is a closed deck block!

I was hungover.. and thought I had.. (Had a head gasket in my hand..) doh.. theres two heads...
