MY00 - Cold Idle speed
#1
Initial Idle speed after 1st starting in the morning is between 1400 and 1600rpm. This is higher then my old MY94 which would initially idle at about 1200rpm.
The MY00 idles at this level for the 1st couple of minutes then drops to about 1300rpm, then down to normal levels.
Should it idle this fast after a cold start...just concerns me that is is that high on a stone cold engine.
Can I Tweek the Idle control valve slightly to bring it down a touch ?

This is really bugging me now....
I don't like the fact that it idles at about 1,600rpm when stone cold.
Blipping the throttle brings it down a touch, but it still sits at about 1,500rpm.
What controls the cold start as I have tried a different ECU and also cleaned the idle solenoid.
Idle when warm is fine, and shows no signs of fluctuation.

As I stated before, my MY00 does this and and so do all other MY99/00s owned by friends of mine. It's a normal feature of the car. Just ease up and enjoy your car.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

Mine didnt used to do it, but now it does
had the car 3months, and I noticed it seem to start doing it after the ITG Panel Filter was fitted

If you do and it works for cold idle it will drop warm idle as well. I have only played adjusting warm idle speeds.
My plan to stop the 740s chucking in too much fuel using the (non-adjustable cold start enrichment) was to put a lower cap on the coolant temperature sensor signal. Bob tells me the resistance of the sensor increases as the temperature decreases, so the voltage would be lower from cold idle.
If you were fussed about it and took appropriate precautions you could consider placing a lower voltage limit on the CTS input with a little circuit. When you've worked it out tell me the circuit so I can cap CTS at >=50C or so or whatever I need to make it chuck in less fuel at cold start. You must not interfere with the operation of the CTS in normal warm operating range as it would probably affect the thermostatic control of the coolant temperature, and very probably fuel and ignition trim. A retard with increasing CTS is safer.
