Full Decat on a MY01
#2
Great question, does the "CEL FIX" need ECU wire cutting etc (personally I don't like this idea) and does it alters sensor's output to the ECU (which also isn't healthy)?

You only need the one CEL fix, for the rear O2 sensor. The up pipe reduces EGTs as it allows better exhaust scavanging from the cylinders, so more burnt case is removed and more cool charge enters on the next stroke.
The CEL fix modifies the signals from the rear O2 sensor so that they are in the range that they would be if the cats were still in place. The signals from the rear O2 sensor have no effect on the running of the car, they are only used for cat testing. Changing these to be in line with what the ecu would be expecting will not cause any problems.
I hope that helps and clarifies things.
By the way, expect around 255-260bhp with a full decat

Pete
Full decat then ecutek
I have heard from a few people that the heat from the up-pipe caused the sensor to break. Thus a warranty replacement.
I know that MRT currently sell 2 cel fixes one for the rear and another for the front.
Does scoobtsport sell the latter or have one in production?? Would like one just in case

Pete,
I have a full Scoobysport exhaust on my MY01 (Inc Up-pipe) and it's currently going through a warranty claim for the EGT sensor as my CEL is permanently on. (I can't remember the exact error code but it's something along the lines of "Exhaust gas temperature too high" and I know for sure it isn't a 0420 as it's been into the dealer and checked on the select monitor)
I spoke to Knowlesy (Sp?) a few weeks ago and he tells me you're testing an EGT sensor which can handle higher temperatures.Would one of these not help people that have a FULL decat?
Just to add,I'm REALLY impressed with my exhaust and it does what it says on the tin so to speak - ie Mine made 262bhp on a rolling road running an ITG panel filter and normal unleaded (All I can use with my fuel card unfortunately)
Go for it Bob!!

The EGT sensor is a problem but we see less of them fail with an up pipe fitted than fail on standard cars. The heat of the gas as it leaves the cat is considerably higher than if the cat is removed. This is because the cat creates a restriction and this raises the temp of the gas. Just like putting your finger over the end of a bike pump, in simplistic terms. Cats rely on this increase in temp to work and the EGT is there to ensure that the cat is at the correct temp.
I have heard that the problems with this sensor and with the up pipe cat have caused it to be deleted from 03 cars, but have not been able to confirm this.
The STi, which has to meet the same new vehicle emission restrictions, does not have the cat or sensor fitted.

I have also heard that EGT & O2 sensors are better on new models but wonder if there are still issues about CEL and needs CEL fixes. Pete do you sell full exhausts for the MY03, which is my next car, and is the same system with "02 models?
Could you tell me also how much noisier is your full system incl up pipe compared with a "02 PPP'd car? I am going to heat wrap quite good up-down pipe in order to reduce noise and improve spool up slightly, and probably I'll do a porting to manifold.
Thanks in advance.

PS: Sorry for the comparison but is a system that know his noise closer.

Hi Jim
Our system fits the 03.
Its difficult for me to compare it with a PPP 01/02 as I haven't driven one for about a year. Ours is louder, but as it has two less cats, its bound to be.
Of course, if you asked me which I prefer...

If your EGT sensor breaks then you can replace it by a 2.2KOhm resistor.
Just unplug the EGT grey connector (2 wires) in the engine bay and insert the 2.2KOhm resistor in the 2 holes in the plug going to the ECU. It's fixed !
Be aware that this should ONLY be done if you're running a catless uppipe. This sensor is there to protect the cat from too high temps (that could melt and go into the Turbo ....).

I've got a euro import and my EGT sensor packed about 8 months and 5000 miles after having a full Scoobysport Decat.
Since replacing it and driving over 10000 miles I've had no problems at all.
And £48.00 every now and again for an extra 40 bhp aint bad

I had the EGT sensor fail on mine (full decat) and it wasn't replaced under warrenty. Just remember that this failure can bring the car to a stop, which if you can't get a warrenty repair can be a bit of a hassle, particularly if the sensors are on back order. I won't go into details but I had a complete nightmare until Pete stepped in to help - top man.
