Unhappy

Need a bit of advice - MY98 Wagon suffers from clutch judder, which I know I can not really do much about - but of late - it is becoming stiffer to change gear, and at times hard to get in first. It always goes into gear but I can feel resitance.
I have checked the oil in the gearbox which is fine - on taking the beast to local Subaru dealer (Sparshatts of Botley) was told that this was due to clutch wearing out, which will need replacing - but until it dose do worry. This is fine but I do not want to spend best part of £700 fixing it if this is not the problem - can you help me? - I will check this at lunchtime and again around 6pm - Thank you.

Thanks for your reply - but does this sound like to clutch, which is really what I need to know, as if not what could be causing this - what should I check?

I had exactly your problem in my 1999 4 door, especially when in long traffic, judder, then hard to change then almost no engagement, and the car was only 20K miles old.
Issue was that the heat from the downpipe (standard pipe with cat) was roasting the clutch master cylinder.
Solution, bleed whole system off and refill/bleed with DoT 5 brake fluid, Result? No other problems, still juddered when cold mind, but that went after 5 miles.
There, saved a fortune!
