car surges on accelerate

Guys,
Notice this problem the other day was accelerating hard in 5th and noticed that it was not smooth but surging. I also noticed that on tick over when stopping at traffic lights the engine noted surged again for about 30 seconds and then settle down. Doing it all the time now. It could be the Lambda sensor that may need replacing but not sure.......anyone else had this problem and what was it???????????

im off to the dealers 2morro with same prob, its under warranity and they said they will put it on the fault monitor, from what ive read its the lambda sensor, but god knows where that is. Also my fuel mpg has dropped from around 26 to 19mpg and thats driving light on the peddal
