when driving the car around town etc,it drives spot on,

if i accelerate hard, the engine seems to pulse, including turbo, almost like the car is on a bungee cord !!!
its hard to explain realy, but i have lived with it for some time now and i would like to sort it this week if poss.

bttt
i have cleaned out the turbo reglator valve thingy on the drivers side wing today,,i got a bit of oil out of it but has made no difference.

would spark plugs cause this 'pulsing' of the engine ????
if so i will change them,i just cant think what it may be.

Sounds like you need to URGENTLY check to see if any fault codes are showing...

Are you sure it is SURGING and not 'hesitating'

Cheers

My MY00 has a full de-cat and ITG panel filter and was doing the exact same thing as you've described on the motorway - effect is akin to someone slowly pulling on the handbrake a bit and then releasing again, power seemed really down as well ? The ECU was showing no codes but reset it anyway, still the same. Spoke to various people on SN and came to the conclusion that it was the dreaded AE802 ECU curse and that I'd have to either get an 800 or 801 ECU or bite the bullet and go the whole hog with a Tek3.

This weekend thought I'd give it one more chance so pulled off all the vacuum hoses and cleaned them out with carb cleaner, did the same to the MAF sensor and then while the green wires were connected under the dash and with the boost solenoid clicking away I sprayed some into that (which also looked quite oily when I pulled off the pipes). Put it all together went on a long test drive and BINGO the car is fine !

,,ive had the select monitor on the car last week, and there were no fault codes at all.

it does not seem to be hesitation as when i accelerate the power is there,,but then at higher speed it surges (pulsates)around the 4.5k region onwards.

what gets me is the fact,i can drive it very gently down the road and it is slightly doing it then also, but not as bad,,as if i am in a rocking chair but can hardly notice it at that speed(20-30 mph)
any ideas???????

Can only agree with Andy, his car is now transformed after yesterday's bearding session. Really pulls very strongly in all gears and feels like how we both expected it to feel after fitting the full de-cat. Surprised considering the number of recommendations he got for getting it re-mapped, which wouldn't have cured it in this situation.

Lo Buzzerboy

I will be very interested to see how you get on, with your car.

just read your post, and I also am suffering exactly the same probs on my 99.

I am running full decat, and ITG panel.

Sounds exactly the same, fine around town, but when I boot it in 4th or 5th on the motorway, feels just like you say, someone gently pulling handbrake on then off, and my boost gauge drops and rises accordingly.

I have just aqquired a tek 2.5 and a forge dv, which I have now fitted, I guess I should have tried to identify the problem first.

In fact I may take these off agin until problem definitely cured.

Although I have to say I cant notice now as much.

Will be very interested to hear how you get on.

Steve

no probs steve,
its been doing this since i bought it a few months ago,
it wont be the dv or air filter as i have changed them to see if it was those things that was causing the probem.
the exhaust was fairly standard, till i changed that,so it wont be that either.
it sounds like just a blockage or dirty maf sensor or somthig like that,,maybe an air/vaccum leak.
i will see if we can fix it today, and i will let you know.

Also, check pipes and connections around your dumpvalves too, especially for oil in the pipe connecting intercooler to dumpvalve.

A bad connection here has caused this exact symptom on two cars that I know of. The connections were cleaned/tightened and the problem was solved.

Cheers

well done andy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its ok now,
it must be the valve you cleaned out that caused the problem.

thanks for the coffee and cake !!!!! you are a star !!!!

i will get you a can of carb cleaner and pop it up to you.

i test drove it down a few lanes on the way back ond opened it up a little,,it pulls right trough the rev range now without the feeling of the handbrake been applied on and off at higher speed.

thanks again matey

roy.

Buzzerboy

well done mate on fixing it, sounds like you got "the man" on it.

Any pics would be greatly appreciated, as I am still learning.

Mine has also done it virtually since i got it a few months ago also.

Believe he had a dump valve on it before, so will check and clean pipes. I used the gasket (2nd hand) that came with the dv, but it was in a good condition.

What was "the valve" that Andy cleaned, was it the MAF?

Many Thanks Guys

Steve

here we go then,

take off the boost valve from the mounting plate,

as andy quoted
"pulled off all the vacuum hoses and cleaned them out with carb cleaner, did the same to the MAF sensor and then while the green wires were connected under the dash and with the boost solenoid clicking away I sprayed some into that (which also looked quite oily when I pulled off the pipes). Put it all together went on a long test drive and BINGO the car is fine ! "
he also cleaned out or replaced the pipes coming off the valveas they were also oily or brittle,,

and thats it !!!!!

thanks again andy ,i owe you one !!!

Red face

Apparently I also need to check my olive - yup thats what i thought.

It seems I may have a 1.3 mm olive instead of the standard one, this would have been for the dawes device that was fitted and now removed.

Mean anything to anyone, may do new post bout it me thinks

Oh and just quickly, are these "green wires" that you connected reasonably obvious.

Thanks

Steve
