Q for Prodrive/engine techies re PPP
#1
I've got my MY03 STI and I'm carefully running it in. I've also ordered the PPP and I;m hoping to get it fitted at the first service in 4 weeks or so. Now my question is was it worth waiting to run it in before PPP'ing it? My dealer felt it was..but I think they were pretty keen to get the car out of the showroom sooner rather than later and didn't want to have to delay it for PPP part delivery. On the other hand no PPP means less boost below 4krevs in early life/running in which seems to make sense. So..PPP from new, ideal or less than?

I would wait until run in and on good synthetic oil before tuning a motor personally. Then you can shake down any issues that arise etc. That said the PPP is a very safe tune, more to do with how you drive it. However, the ideal when installing or reprogramming any ECU is to drive it through all the revs whilst datalogging and checking boost/detonation etc to make sure all is well, so you would want to wait until run in to do this.

Thanks John. Thinkning back to the old days on here I remember plenty of discussions implying one should wait a good few thousand miles before going onto fully synthetic. This still sound advice also? Shame the oil threads were never made 'sticky' in here.

Did the same with the 22B..though after the engine meltdown/full (standard) rebuild I went fully synth at the 1k oil change and the cars been sweeter than ever.
