Unhappy

Help me. I have a standard Sti V3. If I floor the throttle from 3500 (say)or lower and give the car it's head I hit a huge overboost feeling precisly @4500. Keep it floored, and the car will drive through it, hit it again at 5000 and then clear, and then run on to the redline. If I do the same starting at 4000rpm it will blast cleanly to 8000. It ticks over fine, gives usual 15mpg at full blast etc.
I've cleaned the solenoid (2 port)with brake cleaner and all the pipes too. No dross came out.
The car does it with the STI exhaust and the Decat Magnex that is on it now (though the 'brick wall' effect is softer). Any ideas? Or should I just take it to TSL as everyone rates them!
Please be quick, I'm hillclimbing it very soon!

I too had the same problem with my Sti3.According to Merv at PE it is not an uncommon thing with this Sti.
To cure it short term just wind the boost back.Downside is the car is down on power as mine is.
You will need to do what I am having to do and fit a boost controller which will override the ecu.
Merv did warn me that you need to keep an eye on things as you take away the safety element by doing this.
Hope this is of some help.

Paul.

Talking

Paul, where did you get the boost restrictor from? Does it go in one of the small pipes to the solenoid? Loosing any power makes you sad, but the brick wall slam effect is not pleasent either!
Can you help me?

Graham.
The best person to talk to is Mervyn at Power Engineering. I am not technically minded but I know that Merv cured the problem with ease.

Thumbs down

If it is a real emergency then just stick a Dawes Device on there.
£50 and it will override the ECU completely, so you'll always hit target boost. The fuel cut will still be there to stop you going outside the factory specs.

It isn't fixing your actual problem, but I came to the conclusion only yesterday that I don't care

Paul/Steve, Power Eng it is then. The Dawes is too scary as it can cause a very big Bang if pushed? Hillclimbing is a very severe sport, loads of on/off the throttle, red lines etc all for just 60 seconds! Maybe the Dawes is what PE do? Will ask.
Realy appreciate the feedback and help. I only joined in this Scoobynet game last week, so thanks to all!
