Question

For a while now i've had a problem where my radiator fans seem to be permanently on then another day when they seem to be normal. Somebody suggested that the temp sensor may be on it's way out and as such the ecu just sticks the fans on 'just in case'. I've just seen a thread too that says that (for rovers) the car doesn't go into closed loop fuel control if this sensor is fecked. This would account for my other problem (if subarus do the same)..... my lambdalink sometimes works fine (dances about) and other times it seems to 'stick' at rich (when at cruise and idle). Thinking about it this seems to be the times when the fans stay on.

Anybody like to say if the closed loop thing is true for subaru.... and that the ecu sensor for coolant temp is totally different to the (highly accurate )dash gauge. This behaves as normal. If it is the sensor is it easy to change (think somebody gave me guidance on this but i can't find the thread ).

Cheers,

Tony.

Hi Andy,

I had the same problem on my car (95wrx) I replaced the temp sensor reset the ecu and it's been fine ever since, well until the engine let go. I should have the engine back Saturday, when it's all back together I will mail you thise picture's I promised some time ago along with the goodies placed within the engine

The sensor cost me £28 from Cheam subaru and it's a buggar to fit.

All

To get to this the tmic, turbo hose both to the intercooler and to the airbox were removed, the water supply to the turbo was removed (do not apply to much pressure on the header tank they break very easily)Once you have done that look at the back of the inlet to the left and you should see two sensors it's the one that is horizontally screwed into the block (smaller of the 2 14mm I think)
