Today I had a Graham Goode sports cat exhaust system fitted to my MY99 UK Turbo. (fitted @ Subaru £52.00! not bad price I thought)My problem is they said the turbo heat sheild would not go back on as the new d/pipe is too wide at the top. I wondered if anyone knew a way to make it fit? or an alternative way of keeping the under bonnet temperature down? Or does it not matter that the heat sheild is missing?

Cool

I was told to just throw mine away by my dealer.
Don't think it make much difference.
Stuff the heat shields, How's the car running and sounding?

Unhappy

I had a Blitz Nur Spec R b4. Seems a bit quicker, much quieter, but there is a slight tinkeling/rasping noise at about 4000rpm. Not sure if this could be the sports cat bedding in?? Otherwise I am happy with it. Although driving without the sound FX is a bit lonely at first!!!

Did they have to bed it to stop it banging underneath the car.

I've got my "modified" heat shield on my GGR exhaust (MY99)

Like John says trim and refit, the intercooler really gets cooked without it.

So you only need to replace the heat shield if you have a top mount intercooler? fmic you can leave off?

I have a fmic and have left this off...the intercooler pipe and the heat sheild were rubbing.

On a full throttle blast, the turbo is glowing orange hot. It is essential that the heatshield is refitted, to protect the surrounding components from radiant heat.

Trim the heatshield with tin snips and refit. Note that the intercooler and brake fluid reservoirs are nearby. If you want high charge temperatures and boiling brake fluid (if the car is being driven properly) then leave the heatshield off.
