lmao at Xt

It is loud. i did have the bung out but even with the bung in, it is loud. If you dont change the downpipe, i think you will be fine. If you change it, you will be over the emissions test so if mr plod pulls you up, you get a producer and just change your exhaust back for a quick MOT

Got nicked for 109db exhaust and the Police in the Essex area are cracking down on unaceptable noise.

I can't blame them really or th neighbours that have to endure that ckind of auditory abuse prior to 7am in the morning and after 9.00pm of an evening.

Be careful as if one complaint is made at a police station by a neighbour they will investigate and take action and yes you could end up taking it off your car.

There is a word of warning as if you decide to then put it back on the car, they have powers to confiscate it and the 14 day notice does not apply 2nd time round....

(This is not a thread to criticise police or policies or practices)

Guys

Are you all sure that a) the meter was calibrated and b) it was being used correctly.

These sorts of noise levels are seriously high and would damage your hearing.

I stood by the fans out the back of the rolling road for moneys second run. It was Damm Loud, the only thing I could compare it to is drag cars at the pod. It acutaly made my chest rumble apperently a pnumatic jack hammer is 80 to 90 db and at 90 they are pushing the law to the limit

That is loud! however, you have to compare like for like. One test that is common is the mircophone to be 1m away from the back of the exhaust and 1m above it. Usually in an open space and not in a garage!

Yes 3dB is double the noise, so 101 dB is twice as loud as 98db

Either Way you look at it when you put one of these bad boys on a full de-cat system not a lot can make make as much noise!!!! When you are in an enclosed street etc they sound beautiful! The nosie is addictive.

I love mine best buy of last year! Plus I now have 4 new neighbours as the rest moved out due to the noise He He!! Joking!!!!

I had mine tested same way that rally cars are, 4.5k with the meter 1m away in open space.

UK MY99 with SS DP, 3" BPM centre and BPM twister3 BB and it registered 99db with the bung and 103db without.

My mates MY93WRX with a full SS decat registered 98db.

I've been told that the legal limit is 104db using this check but it seems a bit of a gray area. FWIW H&S legislation states that noise levels anything over 85db requires ear protection. So be careful unless you want to wear a hearing aid in later life.

Question

I'd have thought that this kind of sound level was only produced at full or almost full throttle and high-ish revs.

I dread to think how my TSL Grp N BB and de-cat centre sound, particularly when its been de-cat DPd (Later today !),

BUT .. I always drive at almost tickover in the local streets..

so, Hopefully - no one will really notice (TOO MUCH!)

Mark - lets just say I've take the Limehouse link tunnel home 'every' day since having mine fitted. Seems to have quietened down a bit now its bedded in...if you are after *****-out loud you are better with a firestorm, but the Grp N makes a 'quality' sound and goes almost silent on cruise @ 4k RPM / 100mph, which is what I like. Will be interesting to hear with a decat d/pipe...

Wink

Well, I've got just that now !!!

Sounds GREAT - The overall tickover noise is not really any different. If the throttle is opened a small amount, for 30 limit style driving, you can hear the turbo wind up whistle and you can hear something whistle slightly on back off - I think it may be the dumpvalve, as mines still re-circ standard.

HOWEVER< boot it and its V nice !

Fairly loud, deep note - plenty of Turbo whine as it runs up and MUCHO EXTRA POWER !

Very Happy Mark Indeed

Mark - so basically you now have the full TSL grp N decat system?

What MY?

The backbox and centre made a huge difference to mine...how much difference over that has the d/pipe made? I know the d/pipe is the most restrictive section so I'm presuming the same again at least?

Has it improved any particular part of the performance especially?

What is the sound level like at the critical 100mph cruise?

cheers...I'm excited now...

Cool

Yes - I now have the full system (+ITG Panel Filter)

Its a UK 98MY Turbo.

The sound level at 85 (not been above that this afternoon!) is fine - power wise - at least the gain from BB and Centre combined !

(After an afternoons judgement)

My 11 year old son was blown away at the difference - he asked if I was in control of the car, as it felt like it was going on a rocket surge on its own !

Mark

PS

DO IT !

Ok I'm sold! Seems like full decat and Ecutek is the way forward. I just hope thats enough for me and I don't then have the urge to go messing with turbo's and injectors etc.

Famous last words?
