Hi

Anyone know where i can get an oe cambelt (or better) for less than the £110+VAT that my subaru garage want to charge me.

Also need a fuel filter, everything else is catered for

Car is due (time wise not mileage) the 90,000 service, and its a MY97 UK with a few mods.

Cheers

Iain

It's called 'group N spec'...

Don't know anymore details myself Iain, as I only saw it advertised on a flyer detailing products discounted for SIDC members, when I was up there last month.

Give them a ring as they are a pretty helpful bunch IMO. Don't have their number to hand but if you a search on Falkland Performance it comes up

Cheers
Si

Thumbs up

Don't know how much they would charge for just the part but my 90k service (MY94) was about £370 or thereabouts at Reekies (John Gray and Son) in Forres. Used to be a proper Subaru Dealer but is now an independant.

Labour charges for them are about half of that in Aberdeen.

Phone number I have for them is 01309 673155.

They've dealt with my car quite a few times now and I've no complaints.

Think you'll find that Iain will service it himself, hence he just wants the part.

Yeah that's right Si.

A friend of mine has a garage, he's going to do the cambelt (has the subaru tools) and then i'm doing the rest (use one of his ramps), and stamp the book etc.

Thanks for your help & advice though Iain.

Oh and cheers Si, gonna give Falkland a call in a while.

I think GATES manufacture the belt for Subaru and is available from a Motor factors..

At the 90k service it is worth changing the front crank seal as it often leaks arounf 100k or there abouts time wise etc..

cheap part and you are nearly there anyway..

90k service cost me £470... Salsa is £800 is on the cars then you need to find a new dealer!!

Iain

Unfortunately 86k on the clock and a year out of warranty and the slight problem of a few mods screwed my chances of getting anything back from Subaru
But not really too worried, as at least I know i've now got a brand new block, new gearbox and new clutch and the body work is 99%, so there'll be one sweet classic still going for a few years now

Cheers

Salsa,

Do yourself a favour and ring Beechdale in Nottingham and ask how much for a 90k service..

I know TSL do lots of lovely stuff but if they are quoting that much for a standard 90k service including cambelt and front crank seal then they are having laugh..

I hav paid £470 and £475 for two 90k services including cambelt and plugs on two Scoobs.. neither included the front crank seal to my later expense on the second car.. but the cost of that is like £10 for the seal...

Confused!

Are you sure he didn't just add the extra that you normally spend in the there on mods when ever you go there?

Sipie,

Sorry to hear about your engine, what are your mods and what were the circumstance to you failure? just after oil change / service? high speed run?
