ECU informed of true boost, if Dawes installed?

Sorry - Another Dawes question.
I've been wading my way thru the Dawes threads, but still need a definitve answer to whether having fitted a Dawes Device the ECU is given the true boost reading?
I've fitted a SECS Monitor, that I hoped would give me all required info for future tuning mods - But if the boost is masked as per a piggy-back ECU then I won't bother
I got the impression some people leave the ECU patched in, such that the Fuel Cut still operates at about 17psi? If this is so, then the ECU is being given the correct boost, yeah?
Cheers,
Squizz.

the ecu still takes the boost pressure from the manifold.. you have to cut that pipe (on a pre-MY97, post you get a nice blanked off teet). I doesn't behave anything like a pigy back and I can assure the the Fuel cut still kicks in

Thanks Dizzy - I've been reading thru your collection of threads, anyway
So, for the record: On an MY99 fitment, the ECU is being fed an acurate boost figure, including augmentation by the Dawes Device...?

Yep - it's only when you want to remove fuel cut that the ecu no longer sees true boost.....you intercept the MAP signal with an FCD and knobble it a little (good) or a lot (bad).

Cheers, guys.
Looks like I'll be investing in a Dawes Device and leaving the normal Fuel Cut in place. That should allow for slightly higher boost at an improved rate, and the peace of mind of the standard Fuel Cut.

This has got me wondering... why do electronic boost gauges like the defi install their own sender unit when they could simply tap into the MAP sensor and read from that? Surely they could provide a tap-off connector which could simply plug between the MAP and existing connector... far easier and cheaper, and in theory just as accurate.
Or is it taboo for aftermarket stuff to plug into ECU sensors in case it goes ****-up?
