Question

Ok I've had a look at one of these fitted to an STi 4/5 and surely they must be a bad thing (and on all High performance cars with a MAF)?

How on earth do they improve things on a average car though?? does it just lean the mixture out?

please enlighten me

It doesn't, snake oil scam.

Watch out for the Ecutek though, that's a proper job, retunes the standard ECU map.

I have a bit of experiance with these and have found them to be better on more 'simple' engines.

My dad has one on his megane 8v and swears by it, the car is a better drive more responsive and more economical.

It works by bleeding in air after the Mass Air Flow sensor, so relies on the car's fueling having sufficient margin to allow it to run a bit leaner.

Sounds like seriously bad news on a turbo engine then... especially if you're running a dawes or the like and have eaten into the over-rich margin already.

They work well on pugs i.e 205 gti's and 106's etc as they seem to help the lumpy tick over and when I had one on my old 106 xsi it did give better fuel economy and it helped it at the top end, Used to feel it tail off but with ecotek on it kept reving and pulling for a bit longer. Also changed the sound of the car slightly when it was warm it popped/burbled a bit on deceleration.
I was very shocked at the difference it made to the pug!
Good product suited mainly for n/a cars
