Nicebloke,

Are you having problems, mate? My MAF failed earlier this year....first symptoms were erratic idle, sometimes stalling when approaching junctions etc...... also got fuel cuts occassionly when booting it...

I don't think they can be cleaned effectively - they are horribly delicate, allegedley.

If you think yours is knacked, change it ASAP - it could be causing your engine to run lean, which eventually could cause serious damage..........

Do not clean the newer MAF sensors (MY98 and on) as there is a good chance you will break them.

A new one can be obtained WITHOUT the rest of the air box. I know someone round here has the part number for it, but his name escapes me.

The older sensors (certainly pre97) may be cleaned by spraying them with brake cleaner very carefully. (Not at point blank range!!!) It made a bit of difference to mine.

Hunting (in terms of car idling) is when your car idle speed varys around a value. Such as 800 rpm with peaks and troughs of 1000 rpm and 600 rpm.

BTW, all Scoobs hunt a little on idle. I've yet to see one that doesn't vary by at least 50 rpm. on occasion - watched by select monitor...

I remember asking Dyney about mine, and finding out that my "idle problem" was really a very healthy idle, and that his did exactly the same...

Hope this helps a bit!
