Question

Do back boxes honestly give an increase in power or is it just a cosmetic/sound thing. The reason i ask is when i fit mine,if i tell my insurance co. they always want to know if there is a certain percentage gain in power-i dont like to lie about these things just in case i did need to claim and they inspected it and then voided the insurance. What gains are there(if any)-it's a scorpion bbox btw.

+how good/loud is the scorpion bb

Thanks

easy

Do the full system and declare 10 BHP IMHO.

You have to tell them it is there, but there is no more than a few horses if that in peak power gain.

My insurance co. were more concerned about the cosmetic differences in the backbox rather than the power.

They said that something that looked the same as OEM wouldn't cost more, even if it were stainless. But if it were different, then I could expect a policy increase. They were prepaired to accept the backbox as a separate issue (giving no power increase) to the rest of the system (which would give an increase). I'm not sure how common this is.

I didn't get the exhaust at the time, as the policy loading was going to be huge! Now Scoobyworld have an OEM look backbox I might be tempted again

I declared 5bhp for my blitz and didnt pay any extra ins with AXA. Im allowed £2000 worth of mods before they start charging.

Easyrider

Got hold of a Prodrive BB for £200 back in Novemebr. Told the insurance people (Tesco) what I'd put on, and they charged me an extra £40. Not too bad I thought.

On reading the new policy it turns out I can increase the total BHP of the car by up to 10% by changing the exhaust. (Does not state what part or the whole thing ... handy!)

So from this I could put a complete system on that I doubt will add 21.8 BHP .... and not pay a penny more

I put the BB on for sounds and looks. The only difference I've noticed is revs are quite a bit lower when crusing at higher speeds.

Same here.

DirectLine state that any exhaust mod upto a 10% bhp increase, will cost the same.

So it'll cost you the same for a full decat as it would for just the BB. Makes sense.

any change to a car requires that you inform the insurance company - even if it makes the car slower or safer
