Has anyone fitted a fmic to a STi7 yet?
#1
Want to myself but very apprehensive as info about what needs to be cut/moved etc is very limited from the so called 'experts' who sell the stuff. This goes for the APS,Blitz and MRT stuff I've looked at.Would really like to know that someone has fitted one of these successfully.

No Jamie has'nt fitted one onto his car.I know someone who has got one of his kits but has'nt had time to install it yet.To confuse the issue APS are now launching a new kit with all the pipes being metal after issues with the previous silicon pipework. So no one including Jamie has even clapped eyes on the new kit.
MRT involves cutting the crossmember
Blitz instructions in fecking Japanese and d'ont know anyone who has even looked at one
Surely someone somewhere in the world has installed a fmic on their STi7?

FYI The new APS FMIC for the WRX/STI will be with us in about 3 weeks, one is planned to be be fitted to my STI 7. At the moment I'm using the top mounted APS intercooler and have been very very impressed!
Let me know if you'd like anymore info.

Have a look on the MRT Forums as this is frequented mainly by Aussies and they tend to fit FMICs pretty early on in the car's life.

Thanks Matt I'll try that.
Jamie,I would like more info and will keep in touch.Only 'problem'for me and the APS is the cold air feed.I have MAF based tuning with the Ecutek, the cold air feed really buggers up the readings(so I've been told)MAF can be recalibrated but w'ont be easy.Otherwise seems like a really good product.
Cheers,Deep

fmic by aps is great (me at the nobles rolling road day)
roger clark motorsport are the daddies at fitting, check out the pics of mine at www.darrentiday.fotopic.net
well happy with quality of kit and fitting. If u have an sti7 like mine u have to leave in the black bar behind nimber plate, on the new sti8 this can be removed and more intercooler can be on show

Gadget Daz,
Would you care to say what mods you have done to your STi7.
I do assume that the warranty wasn't really an issue for you :-)
Many thanks,
Mark.
PS> What torque did you get and at what rev ?

torque and bhp were only recorded for research on this day 'cause it's not finished, all being well we're finishing on monday. Was temp mapped very rich for safety sake which only gave 360 bhp and 302 lb torque, watch this space, all being well should post good figures early next week.
couple of important modifications being made on monday before remap, then visit rollers again
at billing on sunday, see ya there if you're going

Hi all. Firstly I'll say 'don't shoot the messenger'.......
The APS FMIC for the 01-on cars has solid metal pipework - painted the same red colour as the STi inlet manifold. The kit has all the nuts/bolts/washers/and cable ties you need. There are detailed instruction on how to fit the hardware. There are templates included for bumper cutting - but we have found best results by progressively cutting small sections of the bumper and re-fitting to the car to get a perfect fit. It does take some time, but the reward is worth it.
The earlier 97-on cars have fmic kits with silicon hoses - sadly identical to the FMIC on Daz's car. The intercooler still works pretty well, but the core is smaller, and won't be as efficient. Have a look at www.g-force-motorsport.co.uk and follow the engine tuning links for a pic of the DR500 fmic. We have to leave the trailing edges of the bumper open as part of the core on each side, and the end tanks are not visible through the standard bumper. The intercooler in the previous picture will still work pretty well, but it is smaller than we would fit to a new-age shape car. Your intercooler looks the same as that produced by MRT for the new-age cars (though I can see the APS logos). Silicon hoses are better for heat dissipation than metal pipes, so from a technical standpoint it is a better approach. However most people in the Subaru market think metal pipes are better, so APS have changed to metal pipework.
A properly set-up STi 7 or 8 with an APS 3" exhaust, induction, fmic, and re-map will produce 355-360bhp with 335 ib-ft. We do one of these conversion every week or two. We've got 9 or 10 APS fmic in stock.
