What mods do i need to hit 0-60 in under 4sec??
#1
Hi guys!
If i hopefully buys Gez's STI 6 Type R V-Limited what kind of mods will i need to be achieving 0-60 in under 4 secs?? On std internal. Am i asking to much??
The current mods on the car are;
Fujisubo Exhaust sytem (CAT BACK)
Apexi fmic
HKS SSQ dump valve
I will have a LINK ecu fitted ASAP to gain the benefits of the fmic, exhaust and DV. What else will i need??
I had the following in mind;
550cc injectors,
HKS suction kit
Decat pipe
Uprated intake pipe (maybe STI)
Oil cooler
Bigger turbo (dont know which one as yet)
I know the turbo is going to be very important in this project but i dont know which one to go for. If i get something too big it will obviously have loads of lag and wont achieve the effect i want. On the other hand if i go for something too small then power will die off too early. Whats the best way to choose the turbo??
Many thanks for your help guys.

would like to point out that anders' 22b with a scoobysport backbox achieved 0-62 in 3.8 seconds using datron timing gear, as tested by the driven car programme.
they fried his clutch after doing it several times though.
The most significant difference is the type r gearing and the 4.44 final drive. Gez' car will have both already, would eb surprised if in standard form it was much above 4 already.

I'd be wary of a twin plate clutch on a std gearbox You can get a decent uprated organic one which will hold the torque and protect (to an extent) the gearbox.
You should be low 4's with that set up OK Maybe 3. something on a grippy surface and no mechanical sympathy !!!

andy is of the belief that the shock is what kills the gearbox, explaining why they snap, they dont wear out.
A twin plate is capable of delivering more shock in one go than a single plate.
worth noting andy that the 22b comes with a twin plate on a standard gearbox and they also come with higher torqwue in the first place.
regardless of what is standard, I have a suspicion that andy is right. who gives a damn about shaving off 0.3 of a second, and why is 0-60 so important? especially when it is the most stressful on the car. please tell me what the reward is apart from pub talk?

Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered fitting a de-cat exhaust, STI clutch plates, K&N airfilter, cold air intake, LINK ECU and running on 98 Octane.
Burning off from traffic lights / roundabouts / T-junctions is what it's all about - and it's totally legal.
Or is there now a regulation about the time it is s'posed to take to reach the speed limit?

I prefer the NZ roads away from roundabouts and traffic lights The road from Auckland to 'The Piano' beach (can't remember name ) is awesome

Dave!
Do you have the spec of Trouts Turbo as i cant find it in the classifieds.
I wonder what acceleration times i should be getting after the following Mods
Half decent turbo VF22 or something along those lines
Decat downpipe (either Scoobysport or HKS)
Induction Kit (HKS race suction kit or Apexi)
Uprated intake (STI or something a bit more affordable)
Front mount intercooler (Apexi)
550cc injectors
Cusco twin plate clutch with lightened flywheel
Link ecu mapped by BRD
Cheers
