Yea, you got it Problem is short distance from turbo to manifold, not enough room for a samco reducer

Been waiting 8 weeks for an MRT inlet pipe because it will apparently fit my MY00 with APS induction and the original MAF sensor quite well, and I gather it is similar to the BPM one. The Samco one apparently collapses. I'm not sure the MRT one will actually turn up given the wait... any other suggestions that I might get sooner?

john can these be fitted with inlet manifold still in place or is it a major surgery job i have aps on mine and wld like to add the silicon inlet pipe..ps how much are they and any other bonus with them

john,
just out of interest how much is the mrt one to the samco?
if the samco is much cheaper and more available,I would get the samco and put a few hose clips round it to stop the collapse.

I don't think the Samco is much of an improvement, it has a tight 'kink' in it at a small diameter just before the turbo inlet, which is arguably the most important area.
Alangandyf fabrications do a nice hybrid version which maximises the area available by using thinwall stainless steel at the intake, stepping up to a 63mm Samco bend Bet they're bl00dy expensive though

Alan re-routed his purge can pipes, a water hose and fuel line IIRC, he also re-routed his PCV system.
The 'S' pipe made up for the intake was welded up from a number of sections of stainless steel to give a smooth change of direction. Alan had someone at work weld it together (tig) The Samco hose was my doing - it was the easy bit !!
The problem I think was finding a stainless cone reducer from 63 - 52 mm.
Maybe worth giving Alan a call to ask him about it ? The Samco part is only £20.

I'm also waiting on one - figure it's better than waiting for a BPM one
But once I do the injectors/fuel-rail/catch-can/insulator mods I intend to do my own using Samco bits and and some nice fabricated stainless. If you've already got the catch-can, why not just order Samco 90 degree and reducer?
Of course, needs the PS header moving too though...
Everything I hear about the Samco suggests collapsing with the OE airbox (Christian's car?), which I intend to stick back on at some point - so that's a no go for me. GGR and Roger Clark have them in stock though....

One for me too!
I was thinking Turbo inlet->samco reducer-> fabricated pipe->bend
or somehting along those lines, the fabricated pipe could include the vent pipe bits.

Thanks Andy, but what does that do to 'the little fishies'?! Will be ordering the Samco bits soon, thanks for the heads-up.
My problem is that when I swapped the 23 for 05 it took 3 attempts (#1: snapped stud, #2: so angry at #1 I forgot gasket after replacing stud and #3: snicked a slice in the OE rubber reducer
fitted to the inlet pipe...too lazy to remove jubilee clip 1st...), did I mention I'm no mechanic, lol! On the plus side, it only took me 35 minutes to get the 23 off...but it all went pear shaped after....
I've bodged it and am keeping a close eye on AFR, but would like something in reserve, ready to go, just in case. My manifold mods are still 3-4 weeks away.
John - I'm expecting an email overnight from MRT, I'll let you know results.

Wayyyy up there on the fitting issue, the collapsing Samco attempt needs the inlet manifold to come off. With a lot of lubricant (of your own choice...), swearing & a goodly amount of blood if you're not paying attention/angry/drunk (delete for approproate personality), the MRT/BPM one goes on without removal of the manifold.

The AVO / MRT / BPM turbo inlet pipe of the new age WRX looks better than previous model, wonder if it can be used on the older models, just by relocating the PS reservoir somewere else ?

Andy,
TD05 is much, much better - I'm getting 1 bar in 4th at 3k1 (required more fuel at spool though, b4 was 3k2-3) and the thing is v.happy holding whatever boost I'm stupid enough to set thru' to redline.
All of this on the OE inlet pipe!
Where the 23 always sounded and felt weak, the 05 doesn't (maybe I just had a bad one?). I've just ordered a 2nd one and will be fitting a larger KKK compressor wheel to it

Carlos - the td05 has a locating pin to keep the housing in one location only. While this could be filed off, you'd still have a problem with wastegate actuator, no?

You only have to rotate it a little not 45 or 90 degs, I am talking about a <10 degs so that the Samco reductor hose fits
Regarding, the hybrid TD05's those should be serious fun

I started on some bits for my new engine yesterday and started looking at inlet pipes...
Cant post pics as its a secret...
Lets just say I machined a spare throttlebody.. (i'm going all out and have £10k to play with )
I also have a gearbox... that is still in a cardboard box... complete with lsd at the front
