My engine out of my STI 6 Type R V-LTD MY2000 has the same pattern, does it mean that it too is a closed deck block??

Question

Just managed to take some pics of the block of my 93 WRX. I've found some hatched markings, the ones i have pics for are on the front of the block and the back left. I think there was another at the back right but i couldn't get a pic of it.... The block also seems have a gritty sort of finish (compared to the heads) in line with it being sand cast. Have a look and tell me what you think.

Ignore all the **** on the first pic..... still haven't cleaned all the crap off it when the power steering pump was changed.

Tony,

I would certainly expect it to be a CDB.

Pavlo, the smart guy would run away to the next room the minute she starts the labour process. You thought the lady could swear during lovwe making? You haven't seen/heard anything yet till a woman gives birth. Another pro-tip by my late brother in law and congratulations.

I think it matters where it is. Phase 2 heads have the pattern, but not the block, but I'll check, i have one stripped in the garage.

However, stranger things have happened. I did hear a myth that some later cars came with closed deck blocks.

To test for sure you can remove the water pipe under the inlet manifold and have a poke around with yer finger, see what you find.
