What material will you use for the spacers?
I plan to raise by 8mm and believe others have gone to 10mm but Alan G reported that on phase 2 engines going much more would create a bonnet clearance problem. Not sure of the limitations on phase 1's.
The material has to have good thermal insulating properties, withstand the heat with a good margin and not degrade in time. Personally I think the spacer should be as thin as possible but thick enough for temperature and clearance considerations. Aluminium will give no thermal insulation.
You can see my first attempt at relocating the power steering reservoir www.tyneteesscoobies.com click on owners cars and go to my engine bay. Since then I have fitted an STi7 reservoir in the same place as the STi 7 and that is very neat. It was also less work.
If I can borrow a digital camera I can e-mail some pics of the new instalation later in the week or Christian R can put them on the board as I originally sent them to him.

The Phase 1 cars have much more clearance I raised my manifold by 19mm alloy plus 10mm Nylon spacers and there was still 'loads' of room !

Paul, Tufnol is probably not the best material to use, it has a lower working temperature range and insulation properties 50% less than most Nylons.

I would recommend Glass Filled Nylon 66 with a max temp of 200C and a long term exposure rating of 110C.

The RS part No is 185-3439 £34.43 for a 8mm x 305mm x 500mm plate, this is enough to make 20 spacers !

After finally finishing my DIY front mount and getting it all fitted and shiny i have decided that my next mod is going to be front entry for my TD05.. My local fabricators can make me the spacers but i really could do with some advice regarding how big they should be and why??

Also, AFAIK i will also need to relocate my header tank and power steering reservoir for the inlet pipe (remote reservoir?)

Harvey, I am also thinking of relocating the power steering reservoir, so that I can fit a bigger diameter 70mm inlet hose ..... could you also send me the pictures, email is on profile.

You could probably go a bit bigger than 10mm on the phase II cars, but i didn't see the need or want to go any bigger.

I'll take off the bonnet scoop and check *actual* clearance available if you want, it's just that looking through between the bonnet and grille as it's nearly closed, it appeared to be very close.

Bonnet clearance on the throttle body will be the problem as the phase 2 has the idle control valve on the top of it.

I put a spraycan lid on the engine, with a plastic tube through it, shut the bonnet and it gave an idea of clearance.

8mm Tufnol (phenolic/fabric composite) is much easier to cut and handle than 20mm!
