Removing the ECU on a MY99
Looking to swap my ECU out and on searching the old Scoobynet the only advice is passenger side, lift the carpet and unbolt the foot plate.
Couple quick questions though
Does the carpet lift easily? Any staples to lift?
Once you get into the box, is the ECU a simple lift out (as with a standard PC cpu?)?
Many thanks
Richard.

There's a couple of (probably broken) bits of plastic, but basically it just lifts out.
4 (?) bolts to undo the ECU, and 3 block connectors. Two may well be the same fitment (haven't tried myself
) so may be worth numbering or noting the colour down.
That's it, unless you actually want to rummage around inside the box as well

I've some notes on how to do it up on my website
It should take you 5mins tops from start to finish. The carpet just pulls back.
You just can't get this wrong.

they cables are cut to length so you cant get them wrong. 10 minute job.
in passenger well on transmission tunnel there is a button like fastner. unscrew this and then just fold the carpet back. remove the 3 or four bolts holding the kickplate. then remove bolts holding the ecu, top bottom and right. then unclip the 3 wiring looms.
job done
