Weather permitting, I'm planning on spending some time on the engine this week/weekend, and one thing I wanto to do is identify the turbo on my MY94 STI 1. It should be a TD05, is there anyway of identifying it as such, without pulling masses of pipework/engine bits out of the way ?

If it's a tdo5 then the water feet fittings on the turbo will have 19mm AF hex heads, if they are 17, then it's a either a td04 with an elbow, or a VF turbo.
VF turbos have the compressor cover held in place with plates and screws, whereas the TD series use a large internal spring clip, so it will appear be held by nothing as best you can see it on the car.
