In the spirit of DIY, I bring you project 'X'.
No details, pictures or timescales yet.
All I'm saying is it will put the Q back into Q-Car, and I wil be at Well Lane 4.

Well, okay. The initial aim was to put the TD05 turbo on, and run maybe 1.2bar to see if I could make about 290hp or so. But my engine is going to suffer with that sort of treatment I think.
I also want to get rid of the tappety heads on my car, although the ECU is fine with them, they are annoying.
SO then the project was going to encompass, impreza heads, TD05, oh and front entry mod with manifold etc.
Front entry mod needs either a new manifold, or spacers, and something done about the PS pump. More expense?!!?
So figured I could get some heads and a manifold, with phase 2 rails. Except phase 2 rails won't fit on the 97-98 phase 1 (high) manifold. So I figure phase 2 heads, inlet and rails will do. But now I need to do something with the engine, and I need the car on a day to day basis.
Enter, "Mr Engine".
Mr Engine revs to 8000rpm, has a nice red top, phase 2 heads, phase 2 rails and inlet, new style PS pump and currently sits on my newly refurbished garage on the floor.
Other requirements:
--Bigger injectors, 550cc plus some extra fuel pressure ought to do the trick.
--Uprated intercooling, current plan is an uprated chargecooler radiator and pump with the standard Legacy chargecooler unit.
--Front entry turbo, well, why not get it hybrided at the same time?
--Custom inlet piping, induction kit, bit's and bobs, whatever's required to avoid the ABS really.
--Remapped ECU, it's a strange coincedence, but....
--Water injection, hmm, maybe, might spend same money on an uprated custom chargecooler unit, or not at all.
--Clutch, AP paddle clutch was going cheap, will do for now.
--Flywheel, lightened to about 8kg, should make for sensible driving still, but could be interesting with paddle clutch.
--Billet conrods, well, ideally yes, will wait till new job for those!
--The important bit, 1.7 bar of boost.
So there you go, for now.

Few pics to be getting on with.
The engine in question, few bits required before transplant.
Rather tired Paddle clutch, better plate secured.
Lightened new flywheel.
Garage of doom, needs a quick tidy.
And finally, one for Steven...

oh sh*t
better get me skates on for well lane 4 eh
what regulator are you going to use for the fuel pressure?
also, whats stopping mine revving to 8000rpm, is it just the heads now?..and cams?
what happened to those piccies
could you take a few up close piccies of the ps pump? thanks
ian

I don't think I will be eating many Imprezas alive. Well, a few maybe. But I do have much extra weight to contend with.
If I do the rods though, it's open season on Imprezas.
I will have to overcome the following minor niggles:
-- Idle control valve needs some plumbing to fit to phase 2 manifold.
-- PowerSteering high pressure line needs a flexible part to fit round inlet.
-- Loom needs cutting about.
-- Throttle position sensor needs adapting, or switch adding to phase 2 part.
-- Chargecooler will need some new mounting points
-- 4 bosch coils need to be mounted somewhere
-- Engine may require stripping and re-assembling with new rods and head gaskets.

i actually lied about not doing anything to mine - what were you going to replace the standard chargecooler radiator with? that's a nice cheap mod for me

Pual... you'll need more than that can of easy start on the cardboard box
What you hoping for?
I intend to run over 400 easily for well lane 4.. (close to 430 I was aiming for..)
Steve should be running close to 400+ by all accounts.. and I dont care I'm going to beat him

over 400 on standard internals?
I thought reliability was part of Steven's plan?!! I can inly assume that nitrous kit is going back into Steven's car?
ROTFLMAO!
Okay, so everyone knows what's what, should be a good day, and finally bring scoob tuning up to date.
Paul
edited to take Rolf out of it

Looks like I'm going to have the beast apart soon.
Did I mention the EJ25 block and crank?

...i would be very interested to see the pictures as you go along.
hope you get it running for well lane.
steven
ps no way would emma have walked around a bloody rally course if she was 4 weeks away from giving birth. hope your good lady keeps well and everything goes according to plan. (if you need another car seat, we are selling one of ours, as james (youngest) is too big for it (he is a large baby for his age)

What I am doing is putting a 99 phase 2 engine into a 94 Legacy.
There is a taller manifold on te 97-98 engine that would fit my engine as it is, but I also want better heads, and better internals. Phase 2 engine has all of this, but manifold isn't interchangeable with phase 1.
I also have to modifiy the Magnex decat centre (thanks Steven!) to fit my car, in addition to what's mentioned above.
Edited to add:
I HAVE A JOB!!!!!!!
And a *cough* payrise *cough*.
