I have one of these, or at least the same type. Mine's a GGR one, but is identical. The filter is a large K&N type and bolts onto an alloy circular fitting which then attaches to the air intake pipe as a direct replacement to the std. airbox. Even uses the same bolts as std.
I got mine 2nd hand off scoobynet, and its been on the car (MY99) for about 4 months. I like it, as expected it does make big sucking noises , but I cant help you on statistical improvements cause I changed other bits at the same time

I think some model of STI had these as standard?

Anyway, just buy one

blokey on phone is right It bolts directly to the maf housing, using the same bolts, and fits so snug you dont need any other brackets

Easy peasy.
