My car is having boost problems and is at the garage. They say that the only strange reading off the ecu is the exhaust gas temp which is reading around 900 deg.

Since there isn't a temp sensor for this on the ECU it begs the following questions:-
1) Why does it read this? Is it just a hardcoded number in the ECU
2) Would it effect the boost control?

Cheers,

Andy

Doesn't exhaust temp on some cars retard the timing to safegaurd the catalitic converter?

Didn't think they are on scoobs? My gti-R's got one (which I removed and it's run superb ever since) It used to hold the boost right back intermitantly.

I didn't think there was an EGT probe wired into the (oem) ECU on anything other than the bugeye?

I think that was the point the garage was making. No EGT into ECU, but ECU is reading around 900deg. Is this normal? Has anyone got a select monitor or whatever you need to interrogate one of these ECUs to find out the reading. The theory is that in the absence of an actual sensor it's hardcoded into the ECU.
