Hi.
Have anybody had there gearbox wheels+inputshaft shootpeend to make it stronger,i can have it doen for under 10£,and i think i have to take it apart anyway to change my 4th gear syncro.
does anybody have any info about it?
The company here in Denmark say it increase the strenght by 20-30%.
So mayby i dont need to buy the syncro gearset from Mark.

Shot peening of gears is one of the standard "good ideas" for increasing the stress life of the gears. However, it doesn't entirely remove the problem of over stressing the gears in a Scooby due to excess power.

Here is a link to the MRT Rally site with a bit of standard info (lovingly borrowed from another site -presumably their outsourcers, MT&C Engineers -by the style of it).

£10 is very cheap for a good quality job - so check that they are doing it to the correct standards.

Thank For the info!.
The company in Denmark have done it on several rally car here in Denmark, but also do it for airplanes.
I think They know what They are doing!.
Tomorrow i will try the syntrax gearoil to see if that can make the crunch go away, otherwise i take it apart to have it rebuild and shoot peened.

Thanks

Hello Denmark.

Try to get hold of VMAX nr. 36 May 2002. There is an article about
transmission additives done to a scooby as the editor has one himself. The result was better gearchange and + 9 hp ON THE WHEELS.
The name of the stuff is Alcon and is danish made.

Hi Claus.

I have Abcon products in everything the gearbox, diff, engine + pro octane booster.
Mine was the first Scooby in Denmark to have it in!.
I deal alot with the company ho sell the stuff and have talked to them about the problem,it will for sure make the gears stronger, but i have a problem with the cyncro to 4th gear and it cannot protect cyncro better than standard oil.
On a dyno i only lost 45hp to the wheels, where a friend lost 60hp on a less powerfull engine,so it works!.

Hello Denmark.

Yeah I knew the stuff was good as I checked their website and it generally seems to be a serious company. I will use it. What model do you have?, how many km“s?, modifications? Do you know how many
impreza turbos there are in Denmark? I have a WRX “01 with only airfilterbox mods so far (3700 km)

If your stripping the gear box it might be worth considering cryogenic tempering as well. Significant gains in strength are also claimed for this process.

Mine is a my99 with some mods, producing 302hp/370nm.
Mail me offline for info!.
