There's a cat in the downpipe so if you fit an aftermarket dp you'll defo be louder1

when i fitted mine it didn't sound any louder but what it did do is make the car pick up quicker off boost and free up a lot of power on boost

i would say its the best mod i have done!

paul it all depends on wot d/p u go for really as some are closed neck, some open, different diametres.

I cant really tell u that mine made a difference as i had the whole system changed at the same time so had nothing to compare, all i kno is that it is frickin LOUD!!!!! on boost and a lot deeper on idle, u can hear the turbo flowing a lot easier, pick up is quiker and better and more torque, so much more torque all throught the system.

again i have a RB5 which apparently has a larger turbo which will be different to urs.

speak to Dal, hes the best to speak 2

Ok, I had an Apexi N1 center and backbox with standard downpipe on my MY94 WRX Wagon. It was loudish. I then got a BPM Twindump downpipe (so no cat). It did make the Apexi a little bit louder, mainly it gave it a deeper more bassy sound. It did also allow the turbo to spool up a bit quicker than it used to.

The BPM is meant to be about 6db quieter than most others. That is, actually, quite a lot and basically any other DP will be a lot louder.

My car has a full APS system (with one sports cat). Fitted the downpipe/centre section a couple of days after just having the backbox. Below 3k rpm, it is no noisier than just the backbox. From 3k up, it is a little louder, but sounds so much nicer, can't help but grin on WOT from 4-5k.

Hades,

look forward to hearing that APS system next time we meet up. Hopefully Paul-s will come along too for comparison.

Chris.

No problem, Chris. Your only problem might be getting to hear it at anything other than 4-5k as I like it too much up there. Enjoying the sound too much, so it's definitely my worst fuel economy on a tank to date.

The car's getting new up-pipe and ported headers on Monday too. Will just need the TEK2 after that and I'll be happy.

Phil
